Ely, NV - Ward Charcoal OvensA total of 5 ovens operated for just 3 1/2 years, making charcoal for silver smelting. When the silver ran out, the site was abandoned. Eventually it became a Nevada State Park.Jul 25, 2020

Back Yard Great Blue Heron IIIThis was the best, but still not all that good, reflection shot I got. This bird fished the entire rim of the pond, and I never saw him catch, or even try to catch, anything. Talk about skunked!Jul 25, 2020

Back Yard Great Blue Heron IIThis heron stayed, until someone happened by and scared him off.Jul 24, 2020

Back Yard Great Blue Heron IThe park is pumping out our pond because of the smell and the mosquitoes, and as the water gets lower the fishing gets better! I stood on our back porch to take this.Jul 24, 2020

Great Blue HeronWe stumbled upon this This Great Blue Heron on our way out of the area. He was not too elusive, but also not so cooperative. The bright log in the background overpowers this shot, making it more of a snapshot than an "image", but it's still one of the better Great Blue shots in my collection.Jul 15, 2020

Bald Eagle at Skagit WMAThis eagle permitted us to approach his tree, walk directly, well almost directly :), underneath, and camp out for 20+ minutes before he finally took off. He was up 60 feet or so, yielding the bottom-up view. Not the best view, I admint, but beggars can't be choosers.Jul 14, 2020

Top-Down View of a Small Barrel-Type CactusNear Saguarita, AZ, on one of our many day trips, we sought out Saguaro Cactus to photograph. We did not find a great many, but we were not bored! This was a small barrel-type cactus about 18 inches tall, and probably about 12-15 inches across, depending on whether you count the spines or not.Jul 03, 2020

Really Big Barrel CactusNear Saguarita, AZ, on one of our many day trips, we got lucky and found this near the road. Lucky, because it was behind a barbed wire fence that looked as nasty as the spines on this cactus.Jul 02, 2020

Finished loaves, cooling on the rackBaked fully, and cooling on a rack, singing away. As the crust cools it cracks into small "plates", and the crackling sound is clearly audible.Jul 01, 2020
