Ely, NV - Ward Charcoal OvensA total of 5 ovens operated for just 3 1/2 years, making charcoal for silver smelting. When the silver ran out, the site was abandoned. Eventually it became a Nevada State Park.

Ely, NV - Ward Charcoal Ovens - Inside, looking upThese ovens offer a strange view when standing inside. Just the small door, and a chimney hole in the top. They filled them up with dry mesquite, lit a fire and closed the door, and waited to harvest the resulting charcoal.

The Snake River just below Shoshone FallsThis is the down river view from the Shoshone Falls overlook. Among other things, the Evil Knievel jump site is just at the far end of the view. This was taken on our first day at the falls.

Balanced RockAn interesting ladscape feature off by itself near Idaho Falls, Idaho. It was a bright, blue, hot day on the slpe, and quite busy. Clearly visible from the parking area, and lots of people streaming to and from on the rocky paths.

Shoshone Falls RainbowShoshone Falls near Meridian was quite a spectacle on this sun drenched morning. Mist rising off the falls with the sun at just the right angle provided a beautiful view.

The Snake RiverThe Snake River winds it's way through the Morley Nelson Raptor Conservation Area near Meridian Idaho. The clouds were most interesting this day. It's a good thing since we saw almost no birds up close.
