VerdinVerdin - Common song bird in Arizona and more

Turkey VultureTaken at Dedication Point in the Morley Nelson Raptor Conservation Area. This is on the Snake River right outside Meridian, Idaho.

Rock Wren at Dedication PtThis little bird sang his heart out for quite a while. No answer came though that I could detect.

Yellow-Headed BlackbirdThis is a very poor shot, of an unusual bird I've never seen before. There are out of focus twigs and branches obscuring the lower body of the bird. I removed most of the background because the head and upper torso make the point.

Osprey on a StickWe spotted this Osprey from the car as we drove along a wetland area in Ellensburg. We found a place to park, and he watched us watch him for a long time before he flew off. At that we were never able to get very close because of intervening brush and water. The 500mm brought me as close as it could.

White Crowned SparrowA nice break from the Bluebirds. This little guy came around while we were tracking the Bluebirds, and he posed perfectly for me.

Western Blue BirdThis beauty was found above Ellensberg, WA on our last day on the road.

Bald Eagle watching for lunch, or one false move by us...This shot is from quite a long way away. Focal distance is 133+ meters (145 yards - 1 1/2 football fields).

Bald Eagle in Flight 1I got lucky on this shot in that he flew very near to me: only 56 meters (65 yards) away, and he was not moving very fast.

Bald Eagle in Flight 2This si a shot later in the sequence from #1 above, and twice the distance away.

Great Horned OwlHe played "possum" for this. Notice just one eye (Left) actually open, and that one not very much. Not too concerned about me.

GrosbeakPretty obvious why he was so named

Song SparrowThis little guy sang his heart out the whole time I took photos of him.

Tree SwallowCaught this just as he took off headed who knows where.

An Annonymous VisitorAll attempts to identify this bird have failed. It is most likely a juvenile. Juvenile birds are notoriously hard to identify. My best guess is that it is in the Verio family.

Black-Capped ChikadeeThis is a young black-capped chikadee that stopped by with two siblings to feast in the seed feeder behind our porch.

A Chestnut-backed Chickadee in our back yardCaught a shot of this little guy along with some his bird friends in our back yard one cloudy day.

Marbled Godwit GroupThese guys appeared while I was occupied by the Great Blue Heron nearby. They were a bit far away, but still...
